I start almost everyday with a speed paint to warm up the wacom board. I often film these speedies, to keep track on my process and see what I am doing right/wrong. I thought I might wanna start share these with you. this one is quite old.
These are SPEED paints. I have a timer I set for 20 min, so most of my speed paints are around 20 min. If a speed paint takes more than 1 hour, I dont think it's a speed paint anymore, then it's an illustration.
I sometimes use my speed paints as start ups for other work, and it's kind of sweet to have a huge folder with "sketches" to choose and pick from if you're running low on ideas some times.
also, there are always things you see as soon as the time is up, that you realize you should have done different, and there are always loads of stuff you miss or do wrong. But the important thing is just to nail something, a feeling and basic design in 20 min. This one is done in 21 min.
I was trying to submit a full length video clip as well but youtube wouldnt allow anything over 10 min
Was wondering how much of the design of these weapons was planned and how much is a random line or shape you felt you could exploit?
I never used a tablet before but I stayed at my sis and started messing with hers and ended up drawing a dude in a trenchcoat holding a handgun, but when I started I had no idea where I was going beyond "dude in trenchcoat". So I was wondering if you make this same kind of on-the-fly decision, or whether you already have an idea about where you're going before you start.
Even though this has clear FAMAS influence, I'm actually reminded of the weaponry coming up in the new Deus Ex game because it has a similar style.

I have inhaled seven pixie sticks-- one flavor for each emerald of a corresponding color-- and now I can see the Chaos Force. It tells me everything. Like what a "Potto" is -Dub
the FAMAS inspiration is pretty clear, but it also reminds me of the weapons from Doom 3, chunky and industrial, but with some really interesting curves.
